MIDAS 'TRIKONA FEST 2012'


EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLEGE ENTRANTS & STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN

  • Around 1000 students across South India participated at TRIKONA 2012 organized by MIDAS
  • Students showcased their innovative architectural skills on the "Design from Waste" theme

Chennai, April 16, 2012: MARG Institute of Design and Architecture Swarnabhoomi (MIDAS) an educational initiative to address the global need for high quality architects, by MARG, one of the fastest growing infrastructure companies in the country organized a two day architectural & cultural fiesta "TRIKONA 2012" on April 14 & 15, 2012 on the theme "Design from Waste".

TRIKONA 2012 focused mainly on proper utilization of resources and reuse of waste for sustainable development. The event was a good platform to the students who participated in the panel discussions on sustainable development, by eminent architects like Ar. Benny Kuriakose, Prof. Mr. O. P. Bawane School of Architecture - RV College of Engineering, Bangalore, Ar. Soumitro Gosh – Mathew & Ghosh Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, Ms. Monalika Anand, Architect – BIOME, Bangalore, Ar. Ranganath, Director - K S Ranganath Architects, Chennai.

Speaking on the occasion, GRK Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, MARG Group said "I appreciate the efforts that the faculty and students of MIDAS have put in over the last year and a half in seeking architectural excellence. I am sure that they have enjoyed the unique experience of academia in the 22.9 million sq. ft. of 'Live Lab' environment of MARG Swarnabhoomi, the smart, inclusive, sustainable, energy efficient and eco-friendly city. He further added, "The theme for the 1st Annual Cultural Fiesta of MIDAS, TRIKONA'12 – is 'eco-friendly concepts and reuse of waste', which is not just a noble idea but a significant step towards an eco-conscious society. The Quiz event hosted by renowned quiz master Ar. Gita Balakrishnan from ETHOS had some of the very interesting questions from the field of Architecture.

"Family Cheese" (Winners of the 104.8 Chennai live band hunt and Mind Rocks 2011) from Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM) and the performance of the popular artist and a playback singer Benny Dayal's Band 'Subject to Change'.

Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Ram, CEO, MARG Swarnabhoomi and Education Services says "It gives us immense pleasure to bring in students from various colleges across South India and share their ideas and designs under one roof. Various programs ranging from academic competitions such as model designing, sketching quiz etc to cultural competitions like music, dance, drama etc have been conducted during the event."

Over 1000 students from all over South India participated in this cultural fest. The students and participants enjoyed the cool and pristine location of MARG Swarnabhoomi with all facilities including food and accommodation.

Some of the interesting models developed by the students caught the attention of all creative enthusiasts. The ingenuity of the students was well appreciated by the key panelists and popular architects who have attended the event. They were also impressed on the progress made by the emerging architects over the last year and a half.

MIDAS a part of 1000 acre eco-system at MARG Swarnabhoomi has an exclusive built up area of 43,000 sq. ft which houses a well equipped library, a futuristic studio, large spacious classrooms plus audio and video learning support.
